Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme

The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Successful HKPFS awardees of PolyU will receive for the entire normal study period:

Annual Stipend: HK$337,200 (~US$43,230)

Research Excellence Scholarship: in the form of a tuition fee waiver

Annual Conference Grant: HK$14,000 (~US$1,790)

Cash Award: HK$40,000 (~US$5,120) for the first year, and HK$20,000 (~US$2,560) per year from the second year to the end of the normal study period

University Accommodation: a guaranteed place for 2 years

PolyU Presidential PhD Fellowship Scheme

PolyU Presidential PhD Fellowship Scheme (PPPFS) is a prestigious scheme designed for top candidates from around the world with exceptional academic/research achievements to pursue their PhD studies in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The PPPFS package includes:

Annual Stipend: HK$333,480

Research Excellence Scholarship: in the form of a tuition fee waiver

Conference Grant: HK$25,000

Cash Award: HK$40,000 for the first year, and HK$20,000 per year from the second year to the end of the normal study period

Material Intelligence Postgraduate Scholarship

The scholarship aims to provide financial support to PhD and MPhil students at Research Centre for Materials Intelligent Manufacturing, allowing them to fully focus on their studies. Usually, Research Centre for Materials Intelligent Manufacturing takes 1-3 graduate students a year.

Monthly Rate: $18,840

Months: 36

Scholarship: $678,240

PolyU-WIT Research Centre for Energy Materials Intelligent Manufacturing Postgraduate Scholarship

The scholarship aims to provide financial support to PhD students or Research Assistant at the PolyU-WIT Research Centre for Energy Materials Intelligent Manufacturing. The Scholarship will support 5 PhD students or Research Assistant in recent 3 years.

Standardization Postgraduate Scholarship

The scholarship aims to provide partial financial support to PhD students or Research Assistant who have the passion to work on Standardization. For example, two IEEE SA standards: P3466: Standard for Data-Driven High-throughput Laboratory Intelligence and Automation and P3467: Standard for Digital Manufacturing and Stability Testing of Perovskite Solar Cells and Modules.

Book Publishing Postgraduate Scholarship

The scholarship aims to provide partial financial support to PhD students or Research Assistant who have the passion to work on two books (Material Intelligence and Embodied Intelligence).

Industrial Postgraduate Scholarship

The scholarship aims to provide partial financial support to PhD students or Research Assistant who have the passion to solve the problems in the industrial sector with AI or Robotic techniques.

Dual PhD Degree Programmes

The Dual PhD Degree Programmes offer full-time PhD students the opportunities to benefit from shared research excellence in various disciplines between PolyU and its prestigious partners. After completing the Dual PhD Degree Programmes, students will obtain a PhD degree conferred by PolyU and a PhD degree conferred by partner university.Normally, Dual PhD students will:

A monthly stipend while based at PolyU, if the students meet the scholarship requirements of PolyU. The prevailing monthly stipend is HK$18,840 and it is subject to review annually. Conference grant will be provided with up to HK$25,000.

Joint PhD Supervision Programmes Leading to a PolyU Degree

The Joint PhD Supervision Programmes Leading to a PolyU Degree aim to establish collaborative programmes to PhD students, who may obtain a doctoral degree from PolyU and a certificate of completion from partner institution/university after completion of the necessary programmes and graduation requirements of PolyU.

PolyU has established collaborations with the following institutions for Joint PhD Supervision Programmes Leading to a PolyU Degree: EIT Institute for Advanced Study; Peng Cheng Laboratory; Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Shenzhen Polytechnic University; Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory; Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhuhai)

International PhD Fellowship Scheme

The International PhD Fellowship Scheme (IPFS) aims to attract and recruit high-calibre foreign students to pursue full-time PhD studies at PolyU. The IPFS is open to high-calibre foreign PhD applicants. In addition to meeting the university entrance requirements and English language requirements for PhD programmes, the applicants should have achieved excellent academic results from a reputable university and demonstrate research ability/potential, leadership abilities and potential to contribute to the internationalisation of the University. Successful applicants will receive an attractive scholarship package for the entire normal study period:

Annual Stipend: HK$226,080

HK$231,240 for PhD students who have confirmed registration

Conference Grant of HK$25,000

Research Excellence Scholarship in the form of a tuition fee waiver

Cash Award may be allocated to outstanding applicants

HK$40,000 in Year 1; HK$20,000 per year in the remaining normal study period

Hong Kong Scholars Program (香江學者計劃)

The “Hong Kong Scholars Program” is jointly launched by the Society of Hong Kong Scholars and the China National Postdoctoral Council under the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. It aims at effectively pooling talent and research resources of Hong Kong and the Mainland to train outstanding postdoctoral fellows. Selected “Hong Kong Scholars” (i.e. the postdoctoral fellows) will come to Hong Kong to commence postdoctoral research work under professors at various universities in Hong Kong. This Program will help professors of Hong Kong solicit high-quality PhD graduates from leading universities on the Mainland, thus promoting academic and scientific exchanges and collaboration between the two places.
